LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Rising salaries costing American jobs

Cindy Hanks, in her Friday letter to the letter, lamented that she couldn’t find any items she wanted to buy with a “Made in America” label. She feels that the way to stimulate the economy is by buying American, an idea I couldn’t agree with more.

Well, to me, it’s no puzzle at all as to why manufacturers choose to produce their products in other countries. It pretty much boils down to one thing — cost. The powers in this country, whether Congress or the unions, have demanded and have received salary increases that have cut into possible profits so deeply it just doesn’t make sense for someone to invest their money in this country any longer.

Congress continues to raise the minimum wage, trying to ensure the working man has enough income to provide for himself and his family, while unions try to make all the workers wealthy. They’re noble ideas, but at what cost? It’s easy to see the answer with the present-day economic picture.
