New church planned near Arville and Harmon

Planned church

Earlier this week Joshua Pajarillo took another step toward finding a permanent home for his church, House on the Rock Ministries, as the Paradise Town Advisory Board on Tuesday recommended approval of plans the church has to construct a place of worship near the corner of Arville Street and Harmon Avenue.

The application goes next to the Clark County Planning Commission on Jan. 4 for final approval.

The 1,840-square-foot sanctuary would reside in a portion of an 89,000-square-foot warehouse not currently in use. The congregation, currently about 40 people, hopes to build a recreation center, Pajarillo said, to host activities for the area's youth and soup kitchens for the homeless.

Five years ago, Pajarillo left his home in the Philippines after 25 years as a pastor and came to the U.S. His church falls under no specific denomination, he said, calling themselves "full gospel Christians" who hope to become integrated with the community.

"We're really excited because now we can do whatever we feel we need to. We can use the space in many different ways," Pajarillo said. "A church should not be so spiritual that it doesn't have earthly benefits."

Pajarillo started House on the Rock Ministries in Las Vegas Valley in 2008 as a Bible study group. The congregation has continued to grow steadily, he said, and until now, the church has shared a place of worship with others on Maryland Parkway.

If approved by county commissioners, Pajarillo said the church plans to start work as soon as possible.
