Bad weather leads city to reschedule downtown Las Vegas Blvd. closures

Road closure

Next week’s scheduled closures on Las Vegas Boulevard in downtown have been postponed until mid-January because of inclement weather, city officials said Friday.

Las Vegas Boulevard was scheduled to be closed between Washington Avenue and Cashman Center Drive nightly starting Sunday and ending Thursday.

The closures have been rescheduled for Jan. 9-13. The closures will be from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night.

Crews will be installing a new pedestrian bridge and artwork near the Lied Discovery Children’s Museum and the Las Vegas Natural History Museum.

Motorists can use Main Street as a alternative route during the closure.

The bridge is one of three being built in Las Vegas as part of a $4.7 million trail project. The other two bridges were built for the Lone Mountain Trail over Cheyenne Avenue and Lake Mead Boulevard.

The project is funded by money from the Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act, which allows funds from the sale of Bureau of Land Management land to be used for park and trail projects.
