North Las Vegas officials have decided to make a pilot recycling and garbage collection program a permanent service, saying it would be available to all residents by 2013.
During the two-year-long pilot program, the weekly service was a hit with residents. Traditional service has provided twice-weekly collection.
After 603 participants were surveyed, results indicated 67 percent liked the once-a-week schedule; 68 percent of those who participated said that the program made them recycle more.
Sixty percent of households, or about 40,000 homes, were included in the pilot program. The program won’t cost residents any more than their normal schedule, officials said.
