LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Trims at treasury, post office, could save millions

I agree 100 percent with Jack Krueger in his Monday letter to the editor, headlined “It makes cents for America to stop minting pennies,” on curtailing minting pennies, paper dollars and Saturday postal deliveries.

I would go a step further and stop minting dimes and half dollars. Hardly anyone uses dimes or half dollars, and then they would be forced to use the $1 coins. They should also eliminate the $10 and $50 bills. They should take a clue from the casinos here in Las Vegas that generally only use $1, $5, $25 and $100 chips.

In reference to mail delivery, U.S. Postal Service officials have sought to end Saturday delivery, but I would also eliminate Wednesday mail delivery along with Saturdays. On Tuesdays we usually only receive junk mail.

This would save untold millions, perhaps billions, of dollars.
