Recycle old Christmas trees at Nellis Air Force Base

The Nellis Air Force Base will be collecting Christmas trees between Dec. 26 and Jan. 16 to be recycled.

Residents are encouraged to drop off unadorned trees at the base recycling center in Building 461, located on Tyndall Avenue between Duffer Drive and Griffis Avenue. The trees will be chipped and used as landscaping filler throughout the valley.

Nellis is a member of the Christmas Tree Recycling Committee, which is organized by the Springs Preserve. Nellis has helped the cultural and historical institution keep about 80,000 trees from ending up in landfills since 2001.

Nellis officials hope to collect 500 trees this year, which is double what they recycled last year.
