Christmas trees can be recycled free of charge

The Springs Preserve is partnering with the Southern Nevada Christmas Tree Recycling Committee this year to collect and recycle Christmas trees.

Residents are encouraged to drop off their unadorned trees at 20 different locations throughout the valley. Tree should be removed of all non-organic objects such as lights, wire, tinsel, ornaments and nails. Flocked trees with artificial snow will not be accepted.

Residents may also call 1-800-GOT-JUNK for a tree pick-up service. A $30 fee to remove the tree and to clean-up pine needles will be charged.

The collected trees will be chipped and recycled into mulch to be used in landscaping projects throughout the valley. Mulch helps conserve soil moisture and keep plants healthy. The service is free.

The recycling committee, which is composed of local government agencies, nonprofit organizations and businesses, has worked to keep approximately 80,000 Christmas trees out of landfills since 2001.

For more information about the recycling program and to find a tree drop-off location nearby, call 702-822-7700 or visit www.springspreserve.org/education/green_treerecycling.html.
