Las Vegas couple fined $10,000 after posing as mortgage brokers

CARSON CITY – The state has imposed a $10,000 fine against a Las Vegas couple who posed as mortgage brokers in pulling off a bogus $25,000 property transaction.

The state Division of Mortgage Lending levied the penalty against Rafael and Yvonne Chacon, alleging they never had a license to act as brokers.

The couple did not ask for a hearing after the complaint was filed against them on Nov. 17. The division ordered them to stop identifying themselves as mortgage brokers.

The complaint says the Chacons solicited $25,000 from an individual to invest in a loan secured by a second deed of trust against property in Henderson. But the Chacons never invested the money and never recorded the note or provided the deed of trust to the investor.

The division also is ordering the couple to reimburse the agency $978 for the cost of the investigation and also to recover the cost of attorney fees.
