North Las Vegas firefighters rescued two dogs from a burning three-story apartment complex Thursday morning.

Fire crews arrived at 11:13 a.m. to the fire in the 2900 block of E. Centennial Parkway in the Joshua Hills Apartments. Firefighters saw heavy smoke and active sprinklers on the second floor of the apartment building, officials said.

The apartment's occupants already had evacuated, but firefighters found two family dogs inside one unit when they forced entry into the building, officials said. They were treated with oxygen but appear to be in good health, authorities said.

Firefighters extinguished the main blaze within five minutes and adjacent apartments weren't damaged, officials said. No injuries were reported.

The apartment sustained fire and smoke damage. Officials believe the fire started on a couch in the living room, but it remains under investigation.

A damage estimate has not been released.
