LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

DREAM Act leaves some holes in immigration

The Miami Herald editorial supporting the DREAM Act, reprinted in Saturday’s Las Vegas Sun, was informative. The editorial states there are possibly 2.5 million “young people” who could benefit from the passing of the legislation. It also states it would probably “benefit closer to 1 million immigrants” because not all are planning on college or the military.

Since it appears the legislation would only benefit about 40 percent of the eligible young people, what will happen to the other 60 percent, or 1.5 million, still illegal, immigrants? Will there be another bill written to provide them a path to citizenship? Or will there be an effort to return them to their homeland where, as the editorial states, they won’t know the language or know little about their homeland’s history?

Finally, what additional steps or efforts will be taken to return their possibly illegal immigrant parents to their home countries?
