New neighborhood in the works for Summerlin South

New homes

The Clark County Planning Commission approved plans Tuesday night for a new multi-family neighborhood to be developed within Summerlin.

Plans submitted to the county depict a residential development on 11.6 acres located on the northwest corner of Russell Road and Hualapai Way, within The Mesa village. The new Summerlin South neighborhood, which has not been named yet, will have 57 single-family lots and nine common area lots.

The tentative map application also shows a 16,282-square-foot community lot near the front entrance of the subdivision. Summerlin’s master plan calls for open space to be built within each neighborhood. Summerlin spokeswoman Karry Rathje said the park being built in the new neighborhood would not be a large village- or community-wide park.

The new neighborhood might open as early as late 2011, Rathje added.

Richmond American Homes is building the homes, according to the application. The Howard Hughes Corporation is the developer of the master-planned community, which celebrated its 20th anniversary this year.
