Jobless benefit extension won’t help all in Nevada

The administrator for the Nevada Employment Security Division says reports of a compromise deal between the White House and congressional Republicans to extend unemployment benefits won't help Nevadans nearing the end of their 99 weeks of eligibility.

Administrator Cindy Jones says the deal announced Monday would only continue the 99 weeks of eligibility for another year, not extend benefits to those who've reached that threshold.

More than 26,000 Nevadans have already exhausted those benefits.

The same deal would extend Bush-era tax cuts to all income brackets, including the wealthiest, for another two years.
