Unclaimed property auction brings in $90,456

CARSON CITY – It may be a sign of tough economic times, but the state’s auction on unclaimed property items brought in less this year than last.

More than 325 items were auctioned off in Las Vegas on Saturday by the state treasurer’s office. It yielded $90,456 compared to last year’s $94,000.

Mary McElhone, deputy treasurer for unclaimed property, said the highest bid was $2,100 for a man’s diamond and black onyx ring.

The unclaimed items were found in safe deposit boxes where the rightful owner hadn't been located. An auction is held annually.
