The Summerlin Community Library is hosting the Las Vegas Gamble-Aires barbershop chorus’s annual Christmas show “This is Your Life, Santa Claus!” on Dec. 18.
The performance – which concludes the choral group’s 50-year anniversary observance – is an original parody of the 1950s hit TV show, “This is Your Life” by legendary producer Ralph Edwards.
The 20-member barbershop chorus – a type of a cappella group that originated in the early 1900s, characterized by four vocal parts – will sing Christmas songs and play the roles of Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus. The performance will also feature three quartets from the Gamble-Aires chorus.
“We’re delighted to be offering this 50th family-oriented holiday performance for the enjoyment of our many supporters throughout the Las Vegas Valley,” Gamble-Aires president Rick Ives said in a statement. “Our chorus, building on its last half century, is looking forward to significant growth in the decades to come as a proud member of Southern Nevada’s established musical arts community.”
The public is invited to the Summerlin library theater, 1771 Inner Circle Drive, at 2 p.m. Dec. 18 to see the Christmas show. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for military members, seniors and students, and $8 for children under 12. The tickets may be purchased at the door or from chorus members prior to the show.
The nonprofit Gamble-Aires chorus was chartered in December1960, and is one of the 800 chapters that comprise the 25,000-member Barbershop Harmony Society, based in Nashville, Tenn. The chorus meets at 7 p.m. on Thursdays at the Good Samaritan Lutheran Church, 8425 W. Windmill. Guests are welcome to the rehearsals.
