Worker dies after semitruck falls on him in northeast valley

Metro Police said a man was killed Sunday afternoon when a semitruck fell on him as he was working underneath it at the Maverick Truck Stop in the northeast valley.

Lt. Ted Snodgrass said police received a call about 1 p.m. for the accident at the truck stop, 3225 Las Vegas Blvd. North, near Cheyenne Avenue. The semitruck apparently fell on the man as he was changing a tire, Snodgrass said.

A heavy rescue team responded because the man was pinned by the truck. The man was taken to University Medical Center's trauma unit, where he died, Snodgrass said.

Officials from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration responded to the scene to conduct their own investigation, which is standard procedure for work-related accidents.

The Clark County Coroner's Office will release the man's identity after notifying his family.
