LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Extend tax cuts to get Americans back on our feet

Regarding Ken Anderson’s Thursday letter to the editor, headlined “Tax-cut debate exposes GOP hypocrisy”:

He writes that politicians who are urging America to reduce its debt also want to extend the George W. Bush tax cuts to the rich. He says it will cost the government $700 billion over 10 years.

Anderson then says, “Do they think that the average American doesn’t realize how stupid this sounds?”

But I know how stupid it is not to extend the tax cuts.

Nevada will borrow $1 billion from the federal government to pay unemployment benefits for 2010. California is borrowing $40 million daily to pay its unemployment benefits.

More than 40 states are borrowing from the federal government to pay their unemployment benefits. This cannot continue!

This country needs to get the government off our backs and get people back to work. We need this economy booming again and to shrink the size of government.

In turn, the government would take in a lot more revenue. And if the government stops spending so much money, we would shrink the deficit.
