CARSON CITY – Gov. Jim Gibbons, out of his office since September with a broken pelvis, is planning to attend the winter meeting of the Western Governors Association in Las Vegas next week.

Gibbons, who is chairman of several state boards and commissions, has conducted meetings by telephone from the governor's mansion up to this point. He hasn't been in the office since he was thrown from a horse at a ranch north of Reno on Sept. 21 and broke his pelvis.

Daniel Burns, communications director for Gibbons, said “he will be able to get around somehow,” at the conference Dec. 7-8.

There are a series of meetings at the conference, Burns said, and Gibbons has trouble sitting in one place for any length of time.

"He’s getting better every day and he’s undergoing a great deal of therapy," Burns said. "He’s looking forward to getting out of the chair and around."

The governor celebrates his 66th birthday Dec. 16.
