Gang member sentenced to prison for conspiracy

A Las Vegas gang member was sentenced Friday to six-and-a-half years in prison and three years of supervised release after pleading guilty to racketeering conspiracy charges, Daniel Bogden, United States attorney for the District of Nevada, said.

Demichael “Mikey P.” Burks, 26, is the sixth member of the Playboy Bloods criminal street gang to be convicted and sentenced this year, officials said.

Burks admitted that he operated drug houses and distributed at least 83.2 grams of crack cocaine as a member of the Playboy Bloods, officials said.

According to the plea agreement, the Playboy Bloods operated primarily in the Sherman Gardens Annex housing complex at H Street and Doolittle Street in Las Vegas. Members of the gang have been involved in criminal racketeering acts including murder, attempted murder, robbery and drug trafficking, officials said.

Officials said the gang’s main financial activity was trafficking of narcotics. Members would distribute drugs from neighborhood hotels and apartments.

The five other defendants who pleaded guilty and were sentenced are Delvin “D-Luv” Ward, 33, Anthony “Akim Slim” Mabury, 40, Terrence “Seven” Thomas, 37, Sebastian “Rock” Wigg, 33, and Fred “June P” Nix, 34.

Ward pleaded guilty to RICO conspiracy and was sentenced on Sept. 17 to 11 years in prison and three years supervised release. Ward admitted to operating several drug houses and distributing at least 140 grams of crack cocaine, officials said.

Mabury pleaded guilty to RICO conspiracy and was sentenced on Oct. 20 to 14 years in prison and three years supervised release, officials said.

Thomas pleaded guilty to drug conspiracy and was sentenced June 16 to 10 years in prison and five years supervised release.

Wigg pleaded guilty to drug conspiracy and was sentenced March 29 to five years in prison and four years supervised release. He admitted to operating several drug houses and distributing at least 37 grams of crack cocaine, officials said.

Nix pleaded guilty to drug conspiracy and was sentenced March 29 to five years in prison and four years supervised release. He admitted to operating several drug houses and distributing at least 30.2 grams of crack cocaine, officials said.

Ten members of the gang were indicted in October 2008 on charges of committing acts of violence and drug trafficking as part of their membership in the gang. The remaining four defendants are pending trial on charges of two different alleged homicides — one involving Sherman Gardens security guard Brian Wilcox on Jan. 20, 2004, and the other Billy Thomas on Nov. 1, 2004, in the parking lot of the Pecos Terrace Apartments, 3555 E. Lake Mead Blvd.
