Warmer weather ahead for Las Vegas

Temperatures to climb into 60s Thursday through weekend

A cold snap that's kept temperatures more than 10 degrees below normal this week is just about over, according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures, which reached a high of only 49 degrees Tuesday, will climb into the mid to upper 50s today, the weather service said.

The warmer conditions and mostly sunny skies are being brought on by high pressure building over the west today, forecasters said.

A developing eastern Pacific trough will again increase cloud cover on Thursday and also bring a slight chance of showers to the southern Sierra Thursday night and Friday, forecasters said.

Temperatures will reach normal to slightly above normal levels Thursday and Friday, climbing into the low 60s, forecasters said.

Las Vegas was waking up today to another cold morning, with lows dipping near the freezing point again around the valley.

At 3:56 a.m. today, the temperature at McCarran International Airport was 36 degrees and the wind chill was 30 degrees. The normal low for today's date is 39 degrees. The record low was 26 degrees, set in 1957.

Around the valley just before 4 a.m., temperatures were 34 degrees at North Las Vegas Airport, 32 degrees at Nellis Air Force Base and 33 degrees at Henderson Executive Airport.

Temperatures in the valley were to rise today to 46 degrees by 9 a.m., to 55 degrees by noon and reach a high of 57 degrees by 1 p.m., forecasters said. The normal high for today's date is 60 degrees and the record high was 74 degrees, set in 1940.

Temperatures are expected to drop to 51 degrees by 6 p.m., to 49 degrees by 9 p.m. and to 47 degrees by midnight, forecasters said.

Thursday's morning low will be 40 degrees and Thursday's high will climb to 61 degrees, they said.
