LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Lobbyists have turned U.S. into their playground

Bill Miller’s Tuesday letter to the editor, headlined “Lobbyists exert too much power in D.C.,” was 100 percent correct.

Lobbyists are running the show in Washington and, in essence, we have become a corporate state.

Both political parties are in the back pocket of big money, and the type of government that we currently have can be summed up sarcastically by saying that we have the “best government that money can buy.”

Of course, that government is not one that serves most Americans. Far from it! Abe Lincoln’s concept of a “government of the people, by the people, for the people” is no place to be found!

For some time we have been in dire need of campaign finance reform, term limits for members of Congress and strict control of lobbyists.

Don’t hold your breath waiting for any of that to happen, however. To expect that to happen can be compared to believing that the fox guarding the chicken coop will do the right thing.
