Internet server station in Spring Valley gets preliminary approval

Pair Networks

The Spring Valley Town Advisory Board unanimously approved an application by an Internet networking company to operate a server station in the central valley.

Pair Networks is seeking to operate a single-story communication and office building near the intersection of Rainbow Boulevard and Post Road in the Spring Valley area.

The Pittsburgh-based company will employ about two employees in the 9,000-square-foot building. Land-use consultant Greg Borgel, who represented the applicant, likened the facility to an “Internet server hotel.”

County staffers had recommended approval for most of the waivers of development standards necessary for the project. Staff members raised concerns about regulations that discouraged the absence of a connection between adjacent properties with a similar commercial use.

Borgel addressed the issue, saying that the Pair facility will be operating a use unlike those of its neighbors and will also be under high security due to the sensitive information being processed by the Internet servers.

“The last thing we want is someone from McDonalds coming through with access,” he said.

The application will be heard before the Clark County Board of Commissioners on Dec. 22 for final action.
