Ground to be broken Thursday for northwest LV community park

Knickerbocker Park

Las Vegas City Councilman Steve Ross will help break ground Thursday for a new park in the northwest valley.

Knickerbocker Park will be the second of three parks planned for the Providence master planned community, 7051 N. Hualapai Way. The first park, The Promenade, was built shortly after the neighborhood opened, and the third park, Huckleberry Park, is still in the works.

Ross will be joined by the Mountain Ridge Little League All-Stars and representatives from the community’s developer, Focus Property Group, and the Providence Master Homeowners Association.

The new 15-acre park, located on Brighton Village Street, was named in honor of “Knickerbocker Tales,” a collection of stories such as “Rip Van Winkle” and “The Headless Horseman” by author Washington Irving. The park will feature a splash pad, a play section for small children, a dog park, a multi-use field, a youth baseball field, picnic areas and a jogging path with exercise stations.

Community residents are invited to watch the park groundbreaking and dedication ceremony, scheduled to last from 3:30 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. A time capsule containing signed baseballs and a 2010 Providence activities yearbook will be sealed. After the capsule is buried at the park, Councilman Ross will throw out the first pitch to a Mountain Ridge Little League All-Star.

Providence consists of 30 neighborhoods on 1,200 acres in northwest Las Vegas. The community has nine different homebuilders involved in development of its 7,000 residences.
