Annual Library Tree Lane fundraiser to conclude Friday

The Friends of Henderson Libraries will host its annual Gala Reception on Friday at the Paseo Verde Library to conclude the Library Tree Lane fundraiser.

Those interested in the somewhat formal auction -- cocktail attire is suggested -- are invited to arrive at 7 p.m. to bid on a variety of gift baskets donated by local businesses.

There should be "something for everyone," said Allen Grant, one of the event's organizers. Proceeds benefit the Henderson libraries' children and teen programs. Last year, the event raised about $21,000.

Tickets are $25 and can be purchased by calling 702-492-6584. Grant said he expects between 450-500 people to attend, the largest crowd yet.

"We're excited about the way the community has rallied around this," he said. "This is when non-profits need their support the most."

Since Nov. 16, several specially designed Christmas trees have been on display at Paseo Verde Library. The public has been asked to vote on their favorite, and the winners will be announced on Friday.

Each tree will then be donated to local charities, including the Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth and St. Jude's Ranch.

Paseo Verde Library is located at 280 S. Green Valley Parkway.
