PBR Rock Bar & Grill to replace Hawaiian Tropic Zone on Strip

PBR Rock Bar & Grill is replacing the Hawaiian Tropic Zone at Planet Hollywood’s Miracle Mile shops.

PBR Rock Bar & Grill isn't your grandpappy's country bar.
The 13,000-square-foot bar and grill inside Planet Hollywood's Miracle Mile shops has overhauled the former Hawaiian Tropic Zone, ditching tropical accents and adding reclaimed wood floors, faux-crocodile red paneling, two giant bull statues and restrooms. It even has a façade of steer skulls.
"We tried to get away from traditional country," owner/operator Jonathan Fine said of the venue, which will soft-open Aug. 22. "I think the newer country fans don't like being in traditional country venues."
Fine was inspired by attending events at the popular annual PBR World Finals, which pours millions of dollars into the Las Vegas economy each year.
"I'd see a lot of cowboy hats, but the floor during the start of the event would light on fire and 50 Cent would be playing," he said.
Fine said he wants to bring that fire from the arena to the patio; firepits on PBR's deck will overlook the Strip. Inside, a DJ booth and live-performance stage will branch well beyond classic-country fare. Staff also will literally swing from the ceiling playground-style, and the requisite mechanical bull will bring an extra dose of entertainment underneath a custom-made Jumbotron.
Open daily from 10:30 a.m. until late into the night, PBR's modern comfort food will feature dishes like Dorito-crusted mac-and-cheese and giant hamburgers marinated in French onion soup. Desserts will be designed by local company The Cupcakery.
"It's more Kid Rock than Merle Haggard," Fine said of the PBR experience.

yay! Goodbye cracked out looking Hawaiian Tropic girls!!! I NEVER ate there because those girls looked SO dirty!
Ate there once. Food was dry and tasteless. The waitress forgot our drinks, we had to chase her down for them. And, she never offered refills.
Not surprising they are going out of business.
Good luck to the PBR, I hope they are still open for the cowboys in December. That spot at PH has been less than successful.
Based on the rent that they've agreed to pay, they better knock it out of the park! Or else Mark and Susan may be writing some checks...
I purposely went there because the girls looked SO dirty.
Hawaiian tropic was overrated anyway, it is nothing more than hooters with bikinis and bad food.
It will be cowgirls in cut off jeans, cowboy boots and bikini halter tops. They will all be Daisy Duke clones like in The Dukes of Hazard.
