Shooting leaves woman dead, child injured

Fatal shooting

Metro Police are investigating an early Saturday shooting that killed one person and seriously injured a young girl.

Police received a call just before 4 a.m. about a shooting at an apartment complex in the 5600 block of Meikle Lane, near Lake Mead and Nellis boulevards in northeast Las Vegas, Officer Bill Cassell said.

When officers arrived they found a woman dead from an apparent gunshot wound to the head and a girl with a gunshot wound to the stomach, Cassell said.

The child was taken to the hospital, where she is in serious condition, police said.

Police didn't release the girl’s age, but Cassell said she was a pre-teen.

The gunman was described only as a black man wearing dark clothing.

The identity of the woman will be released by the Clark County Coroner’s Office.

Anyone with information about the shooting is being asked to call Metro’s Homicide Section at 828-3521 or Crime Stoppers at 385-5555.
