Heat suspected in death of man, 80, in Lake Mead area

National Park Service police recovered the body of an 80-year-old man from the Lake Mead National Recreation Area Friday afternoon, officials said.

A police aircraft was patrolling the area about 2:30 p.m. when someone in the aircraft saw what looked like a person on the ground, Park Service spokesman Andrew Munoz said.

Munoz said investigators believe the man died of natural causes. He said heat might have been a factor, although the Clark County Coroner’s Office will determine the cause of death.

The body was found about one mile from the entrance of the park in the Black Canyon Wilderness Area near Burro Wash Road, Munoz said.

The man's name will be released by the coroner's office.
