A man who eluded authorities for 27 years has been arrested in the shooting death of a Las Vegas man.
Jorge Lima-Jorge, 59, was arrested in connection with the murder of William Banks, Metro Police announced Monday afternoon. Banks was 30 when he was gunned down March 15, 1983, at a home in the 5100 block of Garden Lane, which is near Tropicana Avenue and Maryland Parkway.
The arrest marks the oldest cold case ever solved by Metro investigators.
Lima-Jorge was taken into police custody July 20 in Hialeah, Fla. Police said he was able to evade authorities by using different aliases and changing his identity several times.
Lima-Jorge is awaiting extradition to Las Vegas, where he will be tried for murder, police said.
Las Vegas police issued an arrest warrant for Lima-Jorge on March 18, 1983. He is charged with murder with a deadly weapon, police said.
Metro spokeswoman Barbara Morgan said the investigation is ongoing and authorities weren't releasing other details about the arrest.
