Crash near high school leaves one with critical injuries

Three teens were making a left turn into Sierra Vista High School on Friday afternoon when their SUV collided with a car driven by a 19-year-old man who was critically injured, Metro Police said.

The man was identified Friday night as Casey Smith of Las Vegas. He was taken to University Medical Center.

The driver of the SUV, a 16-year-old female whose name was not released, suffered minor injuries, as did one of her passengers, a 15-year-old female, police said. Another 15-year-old female was not injured, police said.

The crash happened about 2 p.m. on Robindale Road, about 500 feet west of Warbonnet Way, police said.

Evidence at the scene indicated a Chevrolet Blazer was turning into the school and the Accura Integra Smith was driving was headed west on Robindale Road when the crash occurred, police said.

The collision remains under investigation.
