Two charged with home invasion after police witness break-in

Home invasion

Two people were arrested early Thursday after Metro Police detectives spotted them break into an apartment and load a number of large items into a vehicle, authorities said.

The incident is under investigation, but police have not established a connection between the suspects and any other recent home invasions, Metro said.

The break-in happened about 1:45 a.m. in the area of Rochelle Avenue and Arville Street.

The suspects, whose names and photos were not immediately released because of the ongoing investigation, were wearing dark clothing, masks and bandanas and broke a window to get into the apartment, police said. Nobody was home at the time, police said.

After watching the suspects come out the front door with items from the home, police followed as they left in two separate vehicles, a Metro news release said.

One of the suspect vehicles was pulled over and the driver arrested without incident, police said.

The driver of the other vehicle rammed an unmarked police car and tried to flee, police said. Officers chased the suspect to near the intersection of West Tropicana Avenue and Arville Street, where the vehicle crashed and overturned.

The driver got out, hopped a wall and tried to get away, but officers arrested him without further incident, police said.

Both suspects were booked into the Clark County Detention Center on charges of home invasion, burglary and grand larceny.

The suspect who rammed the police car was also charged with battery on a police officer with a deadly weapon, police said.
