6 businesses fail alcohol compliance check in Boulder City

Six of 13 businesses that were recently put through an alcohol compliance check in Boulder City failed.

Officers recruited two people under the age of 21 to enter 13 stores to attempt to buy alcohol. Police said the participants revealed their true age if the clerk asked them for identification.

Boulder City Police Chief Thomas Finn said the compliance checks are conducted periodically and another one is expected before schools let out for summer.

“Morally, you don’t want underage kids getting their hands on alcohol,” he said. “It can have serious repercussions.”

Clerks who sold alcohol to the minors received a $637 citation for furnishing alcohol to a minor, police said. Finn said store clerks who sell to minors can be held civilly liable if an incident happens because of alcohol consumption.

“They obviously need to be a lot more observant and take this seriously,” Finn said.

Police said the following establishments sold to minors:

• Shell Gas Station and Convenience Store, 1004 Nevada Way

• Central Market, 1101 Arizona St.

• Vons Market, 1031 Nevada Highway

• Sinclair Gas Station and Convenience Store, 1625 Nevada Highway

• Gas Depot, 100 Ville Drive

• 7-Eleven Convenience Store, 900 Utah St.
