flash point:
What’s Nancy Pelosi got to do with it?
Monday, April 12, 2010 | 2:01 a.m.
Sometimes it’s better in campaigns just to shut up. Perfect example: After the announcement of Justice John Paul Stevens’ retirement, Harry Reid’s foe Sue Lowden sent out the following: “I want to thank Justice Stevens for his years of service on the bench,” Lowden said. “The announcement of his retirement opens the door for President Obama, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi to cross party lines and nominate as well as confirm a candidate that will serve with judicial restraint, ruling by the virtue of our Constitution as intended by our Founding Fathers.” Now I understand the use of Obama-Reid-Pelosi on health care reform and other topics. But Nancy Pelosi has as much to do with confirming a Supreme Court justice as I do. That’s what happens when you can’t resist using every event to take a shot. Sometimes you shoot yourself.

That's also what happens when you are not very bright.
Just say NO to Lowden.
#1, Mrs. Lowden, did Justices Roberts, Alito, Thomas, Scalia and Kennedy show "judicial restraint" when they decided corporations can have unlimited spending in elections?
#2, Mrs. Lowden, I know you and every other Republican think that you can score political points by demonizing the 'dreaded and oh so very evil' Nancy Pelosi, but educate yourself on how SC nominees are selected and confirmed. Your good looks can carry you only so far, hopefully candidates still need some brains and knowledge to win elections. Of course, pretty boy John Ensign won his seat easily.
Lowden, Palin, Bachmann, throw a blanket over the three of them and you would have captured 50% of the brains of the Republican Party. Rush Limbaugh owns the other half. Truly pitiful, is it not?
judicial restraint???
on this court???
hee hee hee...
take a gander at bush v. gore...
good lord...
there is no judicial restraint on this court...
and all the activism is from the stupid pathetic ugly lying always making a threat or fear mongering republicans...
you know...
i wonder if sue lowden even understands what judicial restraint means...
she is very dumb...
obviously...
To all the readers of the Sun, HELLOW from South Dakota. About the Nancy Pelosi comment by Bachman. I would just guess that most if not every move that Obama makes, he makes with the blessings of other high ranking left-wing liberals. Come on, heath care was suppose to be Obamas great bill, but who did he have push this hell-care down our throats, why it was Pelosi and Reed. For anyone to imply that Obama isn't lock-step with the dueling socialists from the House and Senate, is just down right foolish.
Again, all the attention being focused on Lowden as Reid's likely opponent makes me think Reid greatly prefers her to any of the other candidates. Comments like this one from Lowden just goes to show why.
JUST FOLLOW THE YELLOW BRICK ROAD:
"I am his HIGHNESS dog at KEW; pray tell me, Sue whose dog are you?"
Edgar Allen Poe
Who is the man or men behind the curtain that is creating the "Wonderful World of Oz" of Sue Lowden? We can only prepare ourselves for an adventure that will truly end in tragedy.
So tell me Sue when you are beckoned, whose KEW will you answer, the call of the people or the call of your special interest?
Boy, was this LV SUN editorial really worth writing, more or less reading???
For johnniek: I have a granddaughter and two great-grandchildren living in Rapid City, and if the two young ones grow up going through a school system that teaches it's students that "HELLO" is spelled "HELLOW", I fear for their future. They might even grow up to be blindly ignorant about the things that really matter, like which political party is really looking out for the people. And it's not the one that lead us into an ill-advised and completely unnecessary war and drove the country into the worst recession since the 1930,s. Their mother sure doesn't think that way, but she grew up in North Dakota where they are a little smarter?
Since when did the House of Representatives get to vote on SC nominees?
suelowdown's uninformed, idiotic comment is similar to one sarapalin made during the 2008 presidential campaign:
***
[Third-grader] Brandon Garcia wants to know, "What does the Vice President do?"
sarapalin: "That's something that Piper would ask me! " They're in charge of the U.S. Senate so if they want to they can really get in there with the senators and make a lot of good policy changes that will make life better for Brandon and his family and his classroom..."
***
Sad, really.
This is the worst newspaper in the world to pay Jon Ralston for this crap.
Oops, did I say newspaper? I meant newspaper section.
@Larry and Henderson
I couldn't agree with you both more.
I see Ms. Lowden fell asleep during high school civics class. But all the better to feed the conspiracy theories, I guess.
Harry's going to lose to this member of the idol rich ??? (idol in both mind and body)
Which GOP ditz is dumber - suelowdumb or sarapainin? It might be a tie.
Listen to this response from lowdumb when asked how healthcare cost could be controlled:
"I would have suggested, and I think that bartering is really good. Those doctors who you pay cash, you can barter, and that would get prices down in a hurry. And I would say go out, go ahead out and pay cash for whatever your medical needs are, and go ahead and barter with your doctor."
***
Ooookay, susie. Next time I'm in need of medical care I'll get bids from at least three doctors, just like for autobody work...
Hmmmm...
Why is everyone so hard on Sue Lowden and Sarah Palin. They are the pride of Republican party. Isn't it better they show their profound ignorance now before the Fall elections than after and we have to live with that mistake like we did with G.W mistake.
Lowden is Trash
what are you bashing Ralston for???
He's a POLITICAL columnist...
you kids are silly.
[[said Lowden. "I would have said to all of you, if you have a health savings account, I don't really care how much you save, good for you. pre-tax, go ahead and save as much as you want. It's your -- it's for your health. And if you want to save $20,000, good for you. Save it pre-tax."]]
Yeah, Sue, I've got $20,000 to put away so I can "barter" for medical care. She did say "barter" though, so really I wouldn't need money, just a pig or a bushel of corn. Heh, heh, how would the doctor explain that one on his income tax form?
I'm totally seeing a trend.
Liberals can't stand pretty women in their politics!! Look at Hillary, Janet Reno, Nasty Pelosi, Madeleine Albright. They only let in the women with cankles, the frozen botox look, the ridiculous thing Shelley Berkley's got going on. You weirdos are afraid of pretty women!
You only let the uglies in your group.
A man who has never gone to school may steal from a freight car; but if he has a university education he may steal the whole railroad.
Theodore Roosevelt (1858-1919) American president
henderson, if you think all conservative women are pretty, just look at that snake Anne Coulter. She looks like her face caught on fire and someone tried to put it out with a fork. And how about that ugly stain on the proud Filipino race, Michelle Malkin. Her parents must be so ashamed. And the ultra-manly Laura Ingraham is certainly no prize. Michelle Bachmann only looks good in the company of that overblown floozy Sarah Palin who looks like a moose's butt in her leather gear. So liberals have no corner on the market when it comes to ugly women. All the ones I just mentioned look like they got whupped with an ugly stick.
23bigdon1,
You have a serious reading comprehension problem. You should go back to school.
You really need to work on your responses.
Here, you asked me what I thought an Iraqi cab driver thought about the violence in Iraq, and when I answered you, you completely went off on this weird tangent where you implicated me in a string of things that I never said.
http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2010/apr...
Then I voice my observation that liberals hate pretty women in their politics...and you, being the illiterate fool that you are, interpret that to mean that I think all conservative women are pretty.
Even the most die-hard liberals I know admit that Sarah Palin is an attractive and beautiful woman. You are the only person I've ever heard say that she looks like she was beaten with an ugly stick.
23bigdon, nothing you say has any credibility after that statement.
@henderson
It's not that the liberals hate pretty women in politics, it's that the liberal males in power hate intellegent pretty women in politics, as well as any other intellegent person who is not part of the club.
Those same men simply adore a piece of eye-candy with no ability to pose a threat. (Can you say Jackie-O?)
henderson, as John MacEnroe says, you can't be serious. Like the schoolyard kids charge, YOU started it. Out of nowhere you come up with the bazaar idea that Liberals don't like pretty women, and name Hillary, Reno, Pelosi and Albright as examples of liberal ugliness. Where did that come from? You can't find anything more substantive against the Liberals to complain about about? Do I detect a note of desperation in your arguments? And boftx needs to learn how to spell intelligent.
Up until now, I thought most of your posts were usually lucid and well thought out, although I totally disagree with your conservative point of view. The sudden reversion to playground bully tactics of disparaging people you disagree with by calling out perceived physical shortcomings is infantile and does not merit a response.
I did respond, however, in the same vein as your original post, except my descriptions were more literal. Tit-For-Tat, old boy. And I did notice that the only person you did defend was Palin, you perhaps agree with me on the others?
And also, henderson, the cheap shot about me being an "illiterate fool" wasn't very nice. In all of my arguments with you, I never resorted to such childish name-calling. Foolish I may be from time to time, as are we all, but being illiterate is not one of my shortcomings.
My two degrees in literature and language and the twenty years I spent (after a thirty year military career) writing weapons related technical manuals, training curriculum and course development materials, and logistical documentation for the Navy and Marine Corps would attest to that.
I stand by my comments,
here, you asked me what I thought an Iraqi cab driver thought about the violence in Iraq, and when I answered you, you completely went off on attributed a slew of things to me that I never said.
http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2010/apr......
Then I voice my observation that liberals hate pretty women in their politics and you interpret that to mean that I think all conservative women are pretty.
Your literature degrees do not show in your responses.
henderson-AKA-LarryVegas hissed: "I'm totally seeing a trend.

Good lord but that's got to be the cattiest little bit of nail gouging and hair pulling I've seen in a while.
You can't really be that shallow?
Oh, but he is, Mia_, as can be seen by his posts. My mean old Aunt Tilly, mean as she was, never got as nasty as he (I am assuming he's a he, couldn't tell for sure from his posts) is when it comes to disparaging women (cankles, frozen botox,etc.). Mean, nasty old henderson, don't let him play with your kids!!!
