Ex-UNLV guard Terry to join African team for season
Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009 | 1:19 p.m.
Former UNLV guard Curtis Terry is flying to Africa to play basketball for Petro Luanda, in Luanda, Angola, this season.
Petro Luanda finished second to 1 de Agosto for the championship in Angola’s top 12-team division last season.
Terry left Dallas, where he spends time with brother and Mavericks guard Jason Terry, for Newark, N.J., in the morning. On his Twitter page he boasted about nobody sitting in the middle seat of his row.
“No 1 sittin in middle seat, YESSSS!” Curtis Terry wrote. “More leg room 4 me. This is a good sign 4sho :)”
He is scheduled to leave Newark, for Portugal, at 5:15 p.m. From Portugal he’ll fly to Angola. The Angola season runs from November to May.
During his six-hour layover in Newark, Terry wrote about USC tailback Stafon Johnson’s horrible weight-lifting accident, not liking Drew Carey on “The Price is Right” and he zipped a note to Steve Jones.
During the summer, Terry lived with Jones, a walk-on guard at UNLV, and former Rebels point guard Kevin Kruger in the home Kruger owns in Las Vegas.
In March 2007, Terry and Kruger helped guide UNLV to its first Sweet 16 appearance since 1991.
