WASHINGTON -- More than 5,000 jobs have been saved or created in Nevada from the economic recovery act, according to data released today at recovery.gov.
Nevada saved or created 6 percent more jobs per capita than the nation as a whole, according to the White House Recovery Office.
The new data is sure to reignite the debate in Nevada over whether the state got its fair share of the stimulus and whether Carson City is spending the money fast enough.
Of the $987 million headed to Nevada, $314 million has been received. So far, 5,667 full-time jobs have been created or saved with the funding.
States were required to submit data to the recovery office for today's release. The recovery.gov Web site also tracks spending in each state as reported by federal agencies.
Money was allocated to the states by historic formulas established by Congress over the years and states could compete for competitive grants in some spending categories, the White House said.

Even Reid can't remember what lie he has said, he removed from his website where he claimed 33,000 jobs were created or saved last week and he is now claiming 5,667 jobs were created or saved. LIARS! The unemployment in Nevada along with the foreclosures is a clear indication of what is occurring here yet these idiots still lies to us, ZERE paying jobs were saved or created unless welfare is being used then their body count is low.
Wait until the healthcare bill comes to law, 20 trillion or more will be added. We're DOOMED under the buffoons. And for you liberals, you all complain about Bush, look in the mirror, your leaders are liars and you are all so stupid you wouldn't know it if it smacked you upside the head. At least with Bush in office we knew what to expect, with Obama and clan, they change their mind daily and lie daily.

I'm not sure why you guys are so worked up. These new jobs estimates are from the White House economists.
The 33,000 jobs number is FOR TWO YEARS while today's new estimate is for a fraction of the total stimulus bill and only up to this time point.
As for the "PROVE IT" lazy commenter - go to recovery.gov and see for yourself.

boingo, you're an idiot. There is nothing on the recovery web site that "proves" any of the figures stated. They are simply based on input from the various states, which can input anything "approximate" for their figures. Our states unemployment rate pretty much says it all.

I just wandered around in recovery.gov looking over the 5K jobs created in Nevada. Funny, over 4K of them were associated with the zipcode of Carson City. What could a town of 60,000 people do with 4,000 extra jobs? They must all be the great governor's new hires trying to ensure that whatever stimulus money comes to Nevada stays in the North.
I particulary like the dot that says for $9000.00, 9 jobs were created. Not far south, there's a dot that says $2.5Million created 1 job....what is wrong with these pictures? So much for accountability and transparency.
I will believe the stimulous is working when my workplace, UNLV, doesn't lay any more people off after Carson City has another "special" session to cut the southern part of the states budgets again.

On subject. There have been no net jobs created by this or the other administration, and that is how they want it. From the DMV to the IRS those employees are becoming our masters. you might be able to say it CREATED jobs because it got some potholes filled or they had to hire a few guys to paint stripes on the highway, but you can't say a job was "saved".

Hey, I know at least one guy who went to work as a result of stimulus spending, a Social Worker in the Welfare department. They have hired more people to man the phones at DETR for unemployment claims and the SUN lists at lest 10 construction related jobs for State of Nevada. Every Gubment entity from the State level on down has hired someone a "czar" to obtain and oversee stimulus spending. The jobs saved is all relative, but I am sure along the same lines.

Is the 5,600 before or after City Center's 12,000 jobs? Maybe this means with out City Center we would only be 6,400 in the hole for 2009? What do you think will happen next year, or is there another large project scheduled to open that will fuel employment through 2010.
Do you think they know how transparent they are, meaning the majority of those involved in swaying opinion for political reform. Or, is it that we live in a world where moral values and ethical consciences take a back seat to political gain.
How many jobs were added at the Henderson Levis plant in 2009? How many manufacturing jobs (non-mining) were added here in Clark County in 2009? How many mining jobs were added in 2009? How many jobs were lost in the state of Nevada for anyone to be able to say he or she personally saved 5,600 of them? According to Channel 8 LasVegas now.com as of September, 182,000 people were currently unemployed and looking for work. That is more than double since August of 2008. So here is what I say to those who claim they saved or created 5,600 jobs in our state, "ARE YOU KIDDING ME"? You should re-examine the employment status of whom ever is letting guys you go out into public and puke this garbage out of your mouths.
If you want to talk about job creation, talk about "MADE IN THE USA". Manufacturing and innovation right here in Clark County. If you guys want to keep spending our money why don't you spend the $1,344,000,000.00 that it took to create 5,600 jobs at $240,000.00 a job and actually help entrepreneurs and small (not large national) but small local business' grow and create real jobs! Tax credits for employers of small business that hire employees and increase gross sales of American made products here in Nevada, tax credits, free rent, discounts on public utilities for the first 3 years for small to medium sized manufactures that relocate to Nevada from other states and actually make products here in America AND EMPLOY U.S. CITIZENS right here in the State of Nevada. Let's wake up and do something creative, something AMERICAN with all that tax payer money you guys are throwing away. Give me a break, free cell phones for homeless people, whose idea was that anyway, were they at least American made cell phones?
And as an added bonus to further the Strength and Freedom of this Great Country why don't we incentivize big box retailers that carry and prominently display, categorically, at least 39% of all products they sell as 100% made in America.
Tell your Congressmen and Women you believe in the "Made in the USA" Way and so should they!

Every job created is a job gained. I created one job myself. I retired... Only problem is that they replaced me with a younger guy and paying him half as much even though he is doing twice the work.
