WASHINGTON -- Former Republican state Sen. Joe Heck had barely announced his intention to drop out of the governor's race and instead for run Congress, and he's already getting blasted for the flip by Democrats in Washington.

Heck announced this morning his decision to abandon the crowded Republican gubernatorial primary and go for the Southern Nevada congressional seat now held by Democratic Rep. Dina Titus.

Andy Stone, a spokesman for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, wasted no time issuing this missive: “With Joe Heck’s last stint in public service chock full of examples in which he put the special interests first, it’s no wonder Joe Heck is putting another special interest first today – his own.”

Heck trailed in the governor's race, polls showed, and had been encouraged to consider Southern Nevada's 3rd District congressional contest after Republican John Guedry, a banker, announced last month he was dropping out of the race.

Titus, the former state senate leader, is in her first term in Washington. She is the first Democrat to hold the seat.

  1. I have a few questions for Heck.

    1. Should Neil Bush and GHWB be prosecuted and jailed? Neil stole $1 billion from Denver's Silverado Bank. GHWB made $16 million from insider-stock trading at Global Crossings. They didn't pay any income-taxes on there loot either.

    2. Should Obama PARDON Isley and Snipes? Both were jailed for income tax evasion.

    3. Do we need a military draft?

    4. Do You support STRIPPINg Ensign and US Sen. Coburn of their TOP-SECRET military security clearances? Both conspired to cover-up ENSWINe's panty-gate.

    5. INDICTMENTS: President Obama, "Iraq is a war of choice". U.S. Sen. Kerry, "the President cherry-picked the intelligence to get us into this war" (Iraq-NAM). Do you support prosecuting and executing Boy George, Blair, Sharon, Olmert, Delay, Lott, Hastert, Frist, Tenet, Boehner, and McConnel, for their Iraq-NAM war crimes and crimes agaisnt humanity.

  2. Nevada voters threw threw Heck out of office last year. We don't want him speaking for us!

Now he'll have a second chance to see how Nevada voters are fed up with Heck's Republican Party of NO!

  3. Joe Heck's party of yes is not satisifed with him, either. The party of no (Democrats) need to step up its rhetoric against him. Their candidate is becoming vulnerable as she gets tied to the tax and spend crowd in Wash DC.

  4. AFVeteran, I wonder why you call Democrats the party of no. I have yet to hear anything other than no out of the Republican party in Washington, D.C., except when it comes to trying to keep the American people from getting what they pay for.

  5. Dina Titus is, first term aside, a very good Congresswoman. Very good meaning listens, cares about the people of the State of Nevada, willing to stand up for what she believes in, and wants to make a difference for the Country.

The fact that she stood her ground and voted NO on the first iteration of the Health Care mish-mosh was a BIG one for me.

And the fact that she is pro-Education WITHOUT being an Ed-U-Crat also is a definite plus.

I think she stands over Joe because, while Joe is a heckuva nice guy and a Military Surgeon, I don't think he's got his finger on the pulse of what's really going on in Nevada and the Country.

I commend Joe for his service to the Country, but we need to move in a SLIGHTLY (and I do mean SLIGHTY) different direction, and I think Dina Titus is helping us move there.

Nonetheless, I'm sure we will all be watching closely and commenting as appropriate.

  6. To Wizard;
Heck has mnore knowledge, more intelligence and more diplomacy that Titus ever had. His election last year was not representative of people wanting him out, it was of people voting down party lines for Obama, everyone knows that. To suggest otherwise is simply naive. The false attacks from the left should have been prosecuted with the Ethics committee. There is never a right time or reason to malign a good person, yet they chose that route, as usual. Looks like they will do it again. I don't consider Titus to be a good representative, but more so a political opportunist herself. Evident by her loss in the Gov race, then running for Congress. She wanted more, plain and simple. She was termed out and couldn't bear the thought of not being in the political world. By the Dems going negative so early, they show that they are afraid of Heck, very afraid. And they should be. Here is one Democrat who will vote for the best person, not the party! Shame on the rest of you.

  7. Wizard-

Well said. While I was angry at first over her initial vote against HR 3200 in committee, I can now see that she really wants a good health care bill that works for us in the 3rd District. She's obviously been working hard in DC for us, and she's bringing home the goods.

    NV "Dem"-

I'll second Wizard again. I commend Heck for his service to our country, but not his record in Carson City or his pledge to do as the teabaggers ask him to. We need someone in Congress who works for us, not the big corporate interests. We're NOT afraid of Heck and I doubt Dina is either.

  8. Answers to dingo's quiz..1 no
    2 no
    3 yes
    4 yes
    5 please repeat the question.

  9. Titus is killing us with her "go along with the D.C. tax and spend crowd". Our great-great-great-great children will never be able to enjoy the fruits of their capital and labor due to the trillions of dollars the DC crowd (with Titus aiding abd abetting) is spending. Get ready for another Great Depression later down the road. The Kenyan Marxist strikes again!

  10. I am one Dem who is voting for Heck. Dina has proven to be more in the pockets of big insurance and large hospitals. Dina forgot who voted her in, and now spends time hob nobbling with the Republican elite. Its time to send her a message, go home.

  11. Isn't that a pic of Michael Douglas in the movie
    Falling Down?

  12. This is a simple matter. Heck thinks he can end up winning Dina Titus's seat, because bigger fish Sue Lowden would kick his butt in the Primaries for Senator. I'll say he's smart but not that smart, he sould leave the sinking Nevada Republican ship before Gov. Gibbons gives him an personal endorsement.

  13. Ummm, Vegas vampire... Heck wasn't running for Senate against Lowden. And for the record, she plowed the State republican party into the ground last year- Republicans can't stand her! I predict Danny Tarkanian will beat her, and the polls have shown it.
I also believe Heck CAN win this seat from Titus-
if people would stop for one brief moment and look at the man's professional record, they would have to agree that he is by far the best qualified candidate. All politicians should be so on top of as many issues as Heck is. Put aside your preconcieved notions and partisan thoughts for just one minute, and truly ask yourself who you would rather have in office- Titus with a limited background as a liberal Professor and a very, very, liberal voting record who is termed out in the state senate, or Heck who is a business owner, an Army Col.who has served in Iraq, a physician with better knowledge of the proposed Health Care bill than most of the sitting politicians in Washington (and he has read it 3 times), father of 3, lacrosse coach, community volunteer and Homeland security expert. How in the world does Titus compete with that? I would much rather have him representing me than a mean-spirited, grating-on-my nerve voiced woman who only knows how to campaign by trashing every opponent she has gone up against. Let's not forget she ran for Gov and lost, then moving to the Congress race. So why isn't SHE labeled an opportunist??
And afveteran, you are just a bitter goat- perhaps you are feeling a bit like an underacheiver, yes?
To adtleft- well your name says it all- Titus only voted against that bill because she knew she was facing a re-election, and could afford to appear bi-partisan.
I am a moderate Democrat who takes the opportunity to get to know who is running, their platforms and issues as well as the person. Too bad more people don't make informed decisions instead of emotional ones when voting. Maybe if they had, we wouldn't be on the verge if a national meltdown!

  14. I love the dems in D.C. stating Heck is running against Titus at a time of "political opportunism". Very hypocritical, since BHO was only elected because of "Political Opportunism!"
