Three of five young men charged in the death of a Metro Police officer appeared today in North Las Vegas Justice Court.
Prentice Marshall, Saul Williams Jr. and Adrian Pena made their court appearance via videoconference from the North Las Vegas Detention Center, where they are being held without bond.
Police said the group allegedly confronted Officer Trevor Nettleton in his garage in the 1100 block of Emerald Stone Avenue near Lone Mountain Road and Donna Street shortly after midnight Thursday. Nettleton, who had just returned from work, wasn’t in uniform and the garage door was open, authorities said.
Investigators have said the shooting was random. Emergency medical personnel pronounced Nettleton dead at the scene.
Marshall, 18, is facing gang enhancements on charges of murder with a deadly weapon, attempted robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery.
Williams, 20, is charged with murder with a deadly weapon, attempted robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery.
Pena, 17, is being charged as an adult. He is charged with murder with a deadly weapon with a gang enhancement, robbery with a deadly weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery.
Marshall and Pena allegedly robbed an 18-year-old North Las Vegas resident at gunpoint near the intersection of Cheyenne and Simmons roads less than an hour before the shooting that killed Nettleton, police said Sunday.
Two others arrested Sunday night in connection with Nettleton’s death are scheduled to appear in justice court at 8:15 a.m. Tuesday via videoconference.
Quadrae Scott and Emmitt Ferguson, both 18, of North Las Vegas, were booked into the North Las Vegas Detention Center at about 8:15 p.m. Sunday.
Scott was arrested in connection with one count each of murder with a deadly weapon with a gang enhancement, attempted robbery with a deadly weapon with a gang enhancement and conspiracy to commit robbery, police said.
Ferguson was arrested on one count of accessory to murder after the fact.
Visitation services for Nettleton, 30, a three-year veteran of the Metro Police department, are scheduled from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Palm Mortuary, 6701 N. Jones Blvd. A prayer vigil is set for 6 p.m. Tuesday.
A funeral Mass is scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church, 1811 Pueblo Vista Drive. Burial will follow at Palm Mortuary and Cemetery Northwest, 6701 N. Jones Blvd.
The Injured Police Officers Fund has opened an account for Nettleton's family at Nevada State Bank. The account number is 602027542.
Nettleton is survived by his wife, a 2-year-old boy and 2-month-old girl.

RIP Officer Nettleton
Every time I read an article about this senseless killing of office Nettleton I feel like crying.
Is there somewhere we can donate to help the family?
Black crime is increasing. When will it be addressed? When will there be some accountability? Why is it being ignored?
OG call Metro and they'll tell you where to send $$. I think it's Nevada State Bank but I'm not sure.
These punks were so stupid they committed a crime in their own neighborhood. Oh yeah, Mama says her boy isn't a member of a gang. Wanna bet? Why wasn't his happy butt at home at 115am in the morning? They'd already robbed one person an hour earlier and then it got good and they thought they'd try it again. I can only laugh knowing one of them had their d&^k shot off. Too bad he didn't bleed to death, which is the ONLY reason he went to UMC. How'd he hide that from his mama?
I, for one, am sick of these young punks, regardless of what color they are, coming into areas they don't live in to commit crimes.
NOTE TO ALL POTENTIAL YOUNG PUNKS-if you come to my house, you're going to get shot and you will die period. So come on over...make my day!
Another episode of social justice in Obama's Amerika.
Still waiting for Rev Sharpton and Jesse Jackson's statements....still waiting....hello???!!!
I'm sure their RAP CAREER went down the toilet.
Rap and Hip-Hop both belong in the toilet! That life style is for losers' Lazy bums that can't hold down a real job in life.
okay so for one , Prentice Marshall wasn't 18 years old so why was his name released . His birthday was April 17, 1992 . Second he was no gang banger , should have looked at his myspace it was all dedicated to basketball where was there gang involvment? An everyones talkin all bad because you guys don't know the boys personally. Let the police officer had been a regular person you wouldn't have even heard of the story on the news . My prayers go out to his wife and two children , I wish them the best !
But whose too say the kid (Prentice) wasn't a good kid and wasn't just hanging around with the wrong people at the wrong time , and also with the exessive criminal record , they mixed him up with someone else . He had never been arrested!
Black, white, yellow or red. The color of these kids skin does not matter. They deserve to be executed under the most horrible method possible.
R.I.P Officer Nettleton.
I think this case should be treated as any other home invasion muder case, if they dident know he was a cop you can't charge them for killing one. What type of muder case deserves the death pentaly how manny times was the officer shot?Have those details been relased yet?
Some of you are very ignorant for your comments relating to hip hop and rap music> what exactly does music have to do with the death of this officer? What music do you blame for white serial killers and cannibalists and child molestors and so on? We don't all like the same music, but obviously someone likes hip-hop or the artists wouldn't be making millions selling it. So how about you hold the criminals accountable themselves, for their actions, and stop spreading ignorance. Obviously it's enough of it in this world. And what exactly does Rev. Sharpton or Jesse Jackson have to do with this? They become involved when there is obvious racial prejudice going on. All of these men weren't even black so it was obviously not a hate crime - just a stupid one. I wish this officer's family the best and send them my prayers. I will also pray for all of you who have nothing but stupidity to spread.
This is a true American tragedy, not only for the slain officer's family, friends and colleagues, but to all of us, because it brings out the worst in each and every one of us, we all shout the same cry" "Revenge, payback, vengeance"" it does not matter that the slayer is only a kid, nor does it matter that he has a family that will mourn this tragedy just as much as the victim's family, this devastation touches many lives, and we as members of society should be able to understand that. So let us not put the blame on their ethnic background, they are the result of our own fears, they are the outcome of our bigotry, racism and prejudice, let us take this opportunity to embrace what this tragedy is trying to teach us individually.
