Crash location
A Metro Police officer and a Las Vegas woman suffered minor injuries in a two-vehicle crash Saturday evening after the police cruiser entered an intersection on a red light, investigators said.
Authorities responded at 5:47 p.m. to the crash at Ann Road and Jones Boulevard in the northwest valley. Police said a 2004 Suzuki Forenza was northbound on Jones in the right travel lane as the officer's 2008 Ford Crown Victoria was eastbound on Ann in the right lane.
The police cruiser entered the intersection on a red light and was struck on the passenger's side by the Suzuki, police said.
The 40-year-old officer, whose name will be released later by Metro Police, and the front seat passenger in the Suzuki, identified as Rachel Marosko, 39, were treated at the scene for minor injuries. The driver of the Suzuki, Max Marosko, 40, of Las Vegas, and a 13-year-old passenger weren't injured.
The crash is under investigation by the Metro Police Accident Investigation Detail.

The police abusing their positions... AGAIN. I'm not a sue-happy kinda guy, but I hope these people and more people start holding Metro accountable for their actions.
This is a perfect example of the police mentality. They have no rules to follow and can deny people's civil rights at any costs. This cop thinks he can just enter an intersection and everyone should pull to the side and bow down to the all-mighty Metro officer. I've had many run-ins with them and watch their behavior in thier cars and on the streets. This IS the way they think
These fn idiots never learn. How many people have been killed/injured by metro driving like they own road? Someone needs to do the research. I'm sure it's a seriously high number. But of course, it's never the cop's fault.
Time for GILLESPIE TO BE FIRED.
Good grief... another cop bashing story.
I'm certain the officer had the green light!! (misreported by the ultra-liberal, cop bashing reporter for the LV Sun) And, you know, the cop definitely had his siren blaring and lights flashing. Speeding (uh...going faster than normal, I mean) to the nearest crime scene - donut store robbery, for instance.
The "citizen" driver was most likely intoxicated along with his passengers. Two forty years olds traveling with an underage minor? - something fishy about that - CPS needs to investigate!! When will we understand that law enforcement is out there to serve and protect law enforcement!!!
I'm secure knowing that the M-PAID (cute acronym) will get to the bottom of this by the next election
Where is the arrest report? Isn't this woman under arrest for something? Surely it is still a crime to collide with a patrol car. The Sheriff should be having a press conference to blame this woman any moment.
Was the officer Stuart Bowman? Maybe he was so busy crying he couldn't see the red light.
Comment removed by staff.
Now wait... until we find out whether or not the Officer had on bar lights and siren, it's too soon to jump to conclusions... If he did, then it's not his fault... if he didn't then it's his/hers fault, and something needs to be done! Fair is fair
Metro needs to clean house! This is getting out of hand and the problem seems to start at the top. The sheriff should reconsider his ability to control his staff. Maybe its above his ability, we know he can't even seem to control his own actions. The bad police are out street racing and running lights. I know that 99% of them are good guys but the 1% has to be reined in. Its just shameful for the good guys to be brought down by the 1% of cowboys running wild.
Linda in Vegas - I have to think that if the officer was running with lights and siren, it would have been reported immediately. After the last fiasco with officer Manor, Doug will make sure he looks good immediately when his boys do something right.
It seems like the good citizens of Las Vegas have run away insubordination, corruption, and lying in their metro police department.
I'd urge you to solve this problem before the national media gets wind of how many folks are dying at the hands of reckless police driving...it might give the tourists another reason to stay away.
It is the 21st century folks - might want to tell your police department to grow up and quit playing "cowboys and indians."
There is only one thing left to do. Name a park after Gillespie.
Since Floyd Lamb is taken...maybe the new shooting range park?
Maybe Sunset Park since the sun certainly seems to be setting on Gillespie's career.
Wonder how many of these people would be making these comments if the police were on their way to help or rescue one them or one of their loved ones. Please, Metro DOESN'T have an easy job in this city of crime! It's easy to sit back and bash them, but if you were in their shoes, you see how easy their job ISN'T!!! Be grateful for the protection they provide you and yours.

Nobody wants someone innocent to be hurt or killed due to a reckless response by Metro officers to a distress call. Doesn't really make sense to destroy one citizen's life to save another.
Has anyone noticed that these cars today are almost sound proof, I was almost struck by a city police car where I live when I had the right of way, What has to change is there procedures, All Emergency vehicles should stop and look in all directions before proceding, The Officers should expect others to not hear if he/she is the opposing Vehicle.
it takes what, 4 seconds to make sure nobody is coming through an intersection?
labdaddy....You're right... I'm sure that's NOT their intent. See how you react in a like profession....it's easy to say what most are saying, sitting from a room. Get in that profession and get that call....all of sudden you don't have the calm, cool mind you had in the classroom. It's not easy. My hat goes off to all emergency workers that react to those calls.
pgh727 - My heart and genuine respect goes out to all emergency responders as well. However, before hitting the accelerator and turning your vehicle into a 4,ooo pound bullet, if you can't think to buckle up and hit the light and siren switches, you have no more right to be behind the wheel of that black and white than you or I.
Maybe their clasroom training is inadequate. Maybe their psych evaluations aren't thorough enough. Maybe too many Starsky & Hutch wannabees slip through. Who knows for sure. If you sign on "to protect and serve" do just that without endangering innocent citizens.

pgh, If a person in can't keep their wits about them in an emergency situation, then they aren't qualified to handle an emergency situation... That is part of the job.. Sort of like if a Surgeon gets squeamish at the sight of blood, and his hands start shaking, do you think you want him operating on you? Not everyone is cut out for the profession they would like to be in..
A rookie should not be unleashed alone on the public until he has proven he can handle emergency situations without losing his cool.

I do tend to agree with you on this. Sure seems more then odd, that no one was cited in the accident. Normally a person is cited right after the accident... If a B&W hadn't been involved I would imagine that the driver that ran the red light would have been immediately cited... I wonder what's going on with these guys..
BTW, I enjoy the majority of your posts I've read on the different threads.. keep'um coming!
All those that always want to sue the police may have forgotten that we the tax payers pay for that. Not saying that either was right or wrong, but it will come out of their budget which we all pay for. And NRS does require an emergancy vehicle to make a complete stop at a stop sign or red light when running code. Then can then procede only after the intersection is clear. They are not given the right away but are asking for it. Anyone can look up NRS involving emergancy vehicle operation to see what they can and cannot do. This includes how fast they can respond while driving code, and no its not 109.
Great job Metro. Way to go.
I guess they didn't learn their lesson from Ofc. Manor's death......

You know this cop wasn't running lights and sirens because it would have been in the story immediately and they would be trying to book the other driver for something I'm sure. I have so much respect for our cops, but it just doesn't seem fair that they are treated with special privileges. I guess we will see when the investigation is finished.
To those who pull that old line, "...if the police were on their way to help or rescue one (of) them or one of their loved ones. Please, Metro DOESN'T have an easy job in this city of crime!"
Easy or not - I damn well expect a cop when I call for one. If he/she gets killed assisting me - tough break! That's what they get paid for.
Most of the cops in Metro are corrupt - forget just 1% per an above poster. That's the 1% who get caught and almost all of them suffer little or no penalty.
And, no, I've never been in any trouble with the law - outside of a speeding ticket 30 years ago. However, I've worked on the periphery of law enforcement and public services (CPS,DFS), so I've seen too much in this town in the past 33 years and I am comfortable making bold statements.
As long as we have an elected sheriff - we will continue to suffer one way or the other with rampant police corruption in Clark County. The sheriff needs to serve at the pleasure of the county commission or some ad hoc committee of local officials. Like it or not - your local elected councilpeople and/or commissioners, legislators are more responsive. Incidentally, this is not some brand new idea. It is practiced in most of the country.
Why is it, that all of these "CITIZENS" keep getting in the way of the cops?
It's getting to the point where a "COP" can't do their job because "WE THE CITIZENS" are getting in their way to be able to break the law.
Lights on lights off, it just dont matter. When a cop puts his foot down on the accelarator pedal they become the "aggressor" and are the negligent party if they are involved in a accident with a party that was not involved to begin with.
Any incident involving a cop and his vehicle will be scrutinized for a while. Cops are damned if they they do, damned if they don't. I hope they continue to "do". We the public need them to do it.
That car must have had a screwdriver and came toward it in an aggressive manner.
What happened to the good ole days when all the cops screwed up was the occasional drive by shooting?
(How many have lived here long enough to remember that? A cop doing an actual drive by. It isn't funny, but it is hilarious.)
