Harrah’s launches interactive department for WSOP

Friday, May 22, 2009 | 6:01 p.m.

Harrah’s Entertainment announced today that it has launched a new subsidiary, Harrah’s Interactive Entertainment, to oversee the global and online growth of its World Series of Poker brand.

Harrah’s has hired Mitch Garber, the former CEO of PartyGaming, the largest online gaming company in the world, as the Harrah’s Interactive Entertainment CEO.

"As the world's largest gaming company, Harrah's is taking a proactive approach toward international and interactive expansion," Harrah's CEO Gary Loveman said in a statement. "It is important we position ourselves to explore new markets as well as new technologies with our best in class brands."

Jeffery Pollack will stay as commissioner of WSOP and will add president of the subsidiary to his title.

The company said in addition to growing the WSOP, Harrah’s Interactive will explore the use of interactive gaming technologies globally, beginning with Europe.

The WSOP expanded to Europe in 2007 with the introduction of WSOP Europe held each fall in London.

The WSOP event starts Tuesday at the Rio. Last year’s tournament attracted 58,720 entrants from 124 different countries.

  1. Have they installed the Lortab dispensing machines yet?

  2. Dear Harrah's,

    Please die.

    All the best,
    The rest of the world.

  3. Mr. Loveman,

You and your management staff has destroyed customer service within your properties. You have doubled your salary within a years time but have layed off workers that has dramatically reduced customer service. You have mislead your employees (lied too) and continue cutting benefits. If the economy is the reason for decreased revenues, why is the local competition growing at a 10% plus rated while we continue to nose dive.

  4. Jeffery Pollack is a cheat! The WSOP is no longer a level playing field. If you're a well known TV poker personality or 'pro' (loose term) then you play by a different set of rules. You can swear, show your cards to the crowd (during the hand) and get table rulings in your favor (even have closed door meetings with the commish - PH). Get rid of this loser. An open tournament should mean the same rules apply to all you worthless cheater.

  5. Mr Loveman and all of your cronies,How do you guys sleep at night? Your company treats their employees like crap, you have taken great casinos and turned them into dumps and all you do is take, take, take from everyone.
Please get the hell out of town.

  6. The WSOP has help Las Vegas in a big way. If it wasn't in town it would be died.
