CARSON CITY – By unanimous vote, the Assembly has approved a program telling the state Parks Division to establish a commercial wedding program at the Valley of Fire Park in Southern Nevada.
Gov. Jim Gibbons vetoed a similar bill in 2007 because it included an increase in the fee for these weddings.
Assemblywoman Sheila Leslie, D-Las Vegas, said there are 1,200 weddings a year at the park and the charge is $15.
Assembly Bill 550 raises the fee to $150, the same as the 2007 bill.
She said the Bureau of Land Management charges $150 for a wedding at its Red Rock park.
The bill goes to the Senate.
