News that Claudine Williams died saddened me deeply

News that Claudine Williams died saddened me deeply. Williams may have been a true Nevada pioneer, the first woman to run a casino. But to me she was simply one of the most gracious, classy women I have met, often seen with two other gracious, classy women — Thalia Dondero and Kitty Rodman. I remember when Williams saved my life — professionally, that is. I was hosting a PBS special called “A Gathering of Gamblers,” featuring old-time industry leaders. Some on stage were camera-shy or could barely hear the questions. But Williams (along with Phil Satre) jumped in with insights and anecdotes that saved the evening. It was a memorable night that she brightened as only she could. A great lady. I will miss her.
