Temporary visitors center opening at Red Rock

Red Rock

The temporary visitors center at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area will open Friday until a new, permanent building opens this summer.

The short-term visitors center will be located in a portable trailer in the lower parking lot of the current center and will include exhibits and a gift shop.

More than 100 parking spaces will be available at the site and bathrooms will remain open.

The current visitors center opened in 1982 when about 20,000 people visited Red Rock Canyon. More than a million people a year now visit the area, prompting the construction of the new 8,900-square-foot center.

The new center is scheduled to open in late June with exhibits and an amphitheater. The old visitors center will be converted into administrative offices, and a fee station will undergo remodeling scheduled to end in November.
