Las Vegas Sands on Tuesday announced it will open its newest casino in Bethlehem, Pa., on May 22.
Situated on the site of the Bethlehem Steel Plant an hour from Philadelphia and northern New Jersey suburbs, the Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem will debut with 3,000 slot machines, an electronic table game area and four dining options.
The $743 million casino will be Pennsylvania's eighth since gambling was legalized in the state.
The casino’s master plan includes the development of 300 hotel rooms modeled after the Palazzo, 200,000 square feet of retail space and 50,000 square feet of convention space. Sands also plans to add a National Museum of Industrial History.
The opening announcement comes a week after the company disputed reports that it faces significant cost overruns for its $5.4 billion resort under construction in Singapore.
Las Vegas Sands last month reported a fourth quarter net loss of $111.3 million or 27 cents per share, compared to a profit in the 2007 quarter of $39.9 million or 11 cents. Net revenues for the fourth quarter increased 4.3 percent to $1.09 billion.
