Luxury on the block at school fundraiser

Luxury items — including a two-week trip to Spain — will be auctioned Saturday at the Reach for the Stars at Moon fundraising gala for scholarships and programs at The Alexander Dawson School.

The fifth annual event inside the stylish Moon Nightclub at the Palms, 4321 W. Flamingo Road, includes a performance by comedian George Wallace and a capella group Mosaic. The doors open at 7 p.m.

Last year, the gala raised more than $90,000, with more than 250 guests. Kristi Delynko, the school's communications manager, said organizers hope to exceed that this year.

The money raised also goes to staff development programs and purchasing technology for the school at 10845 W. Desert Inn Road.

"This year, we hope the attendees will enjoy the nightclub atmosphere," she said. "It will be more casual and it will be a more social atmosphere."

Celebrity fundraising auctioneer Christian Kolberg will take live auction bids on 10 luxury items, including a week-long vacation in a London penthouse and a dinner party for 16 with award-winning chefs Paul Bartolotta, Kim Canteenwalla and Stephen Kalt.

A silent auction includes 50 items, including a Greg Maddux autographed glove and ball, a week at a mountain chalet in Tahoe, 10 days on the French Riviera and three nights at Atlantis on Paradise Island, Bahamas.

The fundraiser has several creative ways for guests to generously open their wallets. Three hundred keys will be sold for $50 each. One of the keys will open a treasure chest containing $3,000. Balloons selling for $50 and $100 contain a gift valued at or more than its purchase price.

Camille and Larry Ruvo, with Southern Wine and Spirits of Nevada, donated drinks.

The Summerlin private school has a staff of 125 and more than 630 students ranging from pre-school to eighth grade.

Tickets are $175 and can be purchased by calling the school at 949-3600. For information, go online to www.adsrm.org.
