NLV officials to be sworn in next week

North Las Vegas will hold a swearing-in ceremony on July 1 for the officials chosen by voters in this year’s municipal election.

Mayor-elect Shari Buck, Councilman Robert Eliason, Municipal Judge Sean Hoeffgen, and Councilwoman Anita Wood will take the oath of office and officially begin their terms. Hoeffgen will serve a 6-year term. All others will serve a 4-year term.

The ceremony will take place at 4 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at North Las Vegas City Hall, 2200 Civic Center Drive. A reception will follow.

Buck will begin her first term as mayor. She is the first elected female mayor in North Las Vegas history. Buck has served as the Ward 4 councilwoman since 1999. Eliason begins his third term as Ward 1 councilman and has served on the council since 2001.

It will be the second term as municipal judge for Hoeffgen, who was first elected in 2005.

Wood will be sworn into her first term as councilwoman representing Ward 3. She previously served as a city planning commissioner.

Eliason won in the April primary election while the others won in the general election.

The city is accepting applications for Buck’s vacated council seat. The Council will appoint someone to complete the remaining two years of her term.
