Voight and Dafoe Get Top Honors
CineVegas honors iconic actors Jon Voight and Willem Dafoe for their accomplishments and dedication to cinema. The stars appeared in front of hundreds of industry professionals at the ceremony inside Rain nightclub at Palms Casino Resort.

Jon Voight may have come to CineVegas Sunday night to accept an award, but that didn’t stop the outspoken actor from sharing some of his partisan political views on the red carpet.
“Right now we’re in a real bad mess,” Voight said when asked about the current state nation’s politics.
“So many things are changing, we don’t realize that we’re losing ground almost every day,” he said.
It’s no secret that the actor is no fan of the President.
“Obama is a person that’s influenced by Marxists,” Voight said. “We’re going to have to pay very close attention (to him).”
“I feel that all of his recommendations have been disastrous to us,” he said.
The opinionated actor’s comments echoed the ones he made last week while making a speech at a Republican fundraiser in Washington, D.C.
“Everything Obama has recommended has turned out to be disastrous,” he said during his June 8 address.
The Academy Award winner, who is the father of actress Angelina Jolie, also called Obama a “false prophet” during the speech and suggested, "Obama really thinks he is a soft-spoken Julius Caesar.”
“He think he's going to conquer the world with his soft-spoken sweet talk,” he said.
Voight spread his criticisms across the upper echelons of the Democratic party Sunday night before the CineVegas Honorees Reception at Rain nightclub at the Palms.
“I’m upset with these guys, they’re thinking of themselves,” he said of the country’s leading Democrats. “Much of this budget is campaigning to get more votes, to keep them in office forever. They’re doing a campaign that’s about their own continuance instead of about the country’s needs.”
“I feel they’ve done an injustice to the country, the way they’ve behaved over the past several years,” he said.
Voight doesn’t have much hope of seeing the kind of change he’s hoping for while Obama is in the Oval Office, Nancy Pelosi heads the House of Representatives, and Nevada’s own Sen. Harry Reid is the Senate Majority Leader.
“Maybe (Obama) will wake up, maybe his team will wake up, but we’ve got people like Nancy Pelosi, (and) Harry Reid from Nevada who have really done us in,” he said.
The 71-year-old star said he’d like the Democrats to “stop right where they are now and turn around and do everything the reverse.”
He thinks the Democrats need a little reverse psychology.
“If they say this, I would say, well, then do that,” he said.
“The country is being eroded,” he said.
Voight concluded his political remarks on the red carpet by urging his fellow Americans to “stop this erosion, be attentive, be a good citizen, be active.”
Jon Voight received the CineVegas Marquee Award for artistic excellence, professional accomplishment and dedication to cinema Sunday night.

I am happy to see that not all of hollywood has been brainwashed by the left.
This probably means he will never work in hollywierd again. I am happy to see him speak up.
So this guy, the star of such Box-office hits as "The Bratz Movie," is the leader of the republican party now?
What a sad commentary on how a once-great party has crashed and burned.
Jon is just another old broken down druggie from the seventies who is now telling America how to live when he infact has made a mess of his life. He did a bang up job with Angelina,Billy Bob,Pitt and who knows how many others.
To account for his stupidity he must have been in a coma during the Bush years, talk about 'a real bad mess'.
I find it ironic most right wing nut jobs curse Hollywood and it's stars, when most of these stars are willing to pay more in taxes and I mean real money, while most of the right wingers are looking for someone else to pay their taxes.
The greatest political commentary I've seen from a politician actually took place during a movie. Warren Beatty in Bulworth. Just because most actors are liberal doesn't mean they run Hollywood. Beatty only did one movie, Town & Country, after he made Bulworth. Wonder why that is?
Voight is an idiot. I couldn't care less about his opinion on anything.
I meant from an actor, not a politician.
As much as I wanted the Republicans to get their resolve back, Voight is NOT the man (or woman) for the job.
Honestly, is this the best we can do?
Jerry, Beatty hasn't worked because Town and Country, the last movie he was in, is considered one of the biggest box office bombs in history.
It was budgeted at 105 million dollars and only earned 10 million WORLDWIDE. The movie lost more than 90 million dollars.

What's with the loony conspiracy theory this morning?
It's actually very funny. Jon Voight giving any one advice of any kind. The man's personal life has been a total mess.
I got a kick out of what Voight said:
"I feel they've done (Democrats) an injustice to the country, the way they've behaved over the past several years...."
Was Voight talking about the GOP? Sure sounds like it to me....
He's he's Angalina Jolie's dad! Of course he knows what he's talking about. Look how well his daughter has turned out! God, what makes celebs ,washed up and so called "a listers think their political views matter. This guy is just trying to call attention to himself to hopefully resurect his worthless career.
Jon Voight was known to be an outspoken critic of Obama BEFORE he received the award at CineVegas yesterday. So much for the theory that conservatives are persecuted in Hollywood.
Yes, Democrats outnumber Republicans among Hollywood actors. I think there are a couple of reasons for this: many actors remember their financial struggles they endured before they hit it big. Also, being a public donor or spokesman for a liberal cause is a good way to get free and favorable publicity.
Voight isn't just talking about economics or taxes, he is talking about the loss of freedom in exchange for government control over our daily lives.
Vought's personal life is irrelevant to criticizing a political philosophy which makes running the lives of all others its primary mission; especially if that philosophy violates personal freedoms and the rule of law. Not that Republicans have lacked interest in running other people's lives - plenty of liberals seem to miss the fact that Bush II increased government regulations above what we saw under Bill Clinton...
Of course his personal life is RELEVANT.
It gives weight, OR NOT, to the statement. Especially if the statement judges another.
Voight got a little media attention last week when he opened his yap, so now he's trying to extend his little moment in the spotlight. Reminds me of Joe the Plumber, for crying out loud. It's laughable. And, regrettably for republicans, just another example of a poorly rendered & easily dismissed diatribe from an obviously out of touch pseudo-celeb. Who is also, predictably, an aging, angry, white male.
Whenever an admitted cocaine user becomes commander of the world's most powerful military shouldn't everyone be on alert?
You just can't make this stuff up.
I can see the goose stepping lib koolaid drinkers are in full force today.
Perhaps, you should open a re-education camp in Hollywood to weed out the 1% that do not agree with crazy lib world.
Be sure to go into bezerk attack mode too.
Well Harley, it didn't do us much good with W, did it? & No, you couldn't have possibly made up prior to his administration what went down.
You sir, are absolutely correct!
Let's welcome the Sun's great "Wizard of Oz" to the conversation. Pay no attention to the jfnance32 behind the curtain! I am the Great & Powerful SGT. ROCK!
Yeah, gmag, it's kinda funny that the guy with multiple personalities is arguing a position which calls liberals "crazy."
At least we only have one personality SgtRock, err, jfNance32, err James F Nance Jr.
ksand, it always makes me wonder about his sanity when he turns into "nevadaappleslices"... the heavy lifter for his anti-UNLV campaign.
I wonder if he sends birthday presents to his grand-kids...maybe that's not allowed either...
Mr. Voight has been trumpeted on Fox News in recent weeks as a publicly known, or "celebrity", voice of criticism for progressive centrist government.
Personally, I'd rather hear from Steve McQueen, if that were possible.
However, perhaps in the future Mr. Voight and, say, Mickey Rourke can square off from their respective political corners in a sequel, "The Wrestler 2".
If anyone speaks out against the complete Twit in the Whitehouse they are attacked.
I am glad Voight spoke up and voiced what many true Americans think and feel.
The twit is spending like a drunken sailor and is a complete and utter failure at everything except getting in the spotlight.
Jon Voight is entitled to his comments; he can say all he wants about our politics or politicians. It is the American in all of us to protest our government when we are not in agreement with its laws, or foreign policies, etc... Jon certainly has a problem with the administrations: BHO' foreign policies concerning Israel. Can anyone remember the truly inspiration speech the President made in Egypt; if so, you will understand the hate Jon has for BHO.
The silly thing about the hacks on this thread is that they think it is a party line issue. As far as Jon is concerned he is happy to allow most people to make that parallel, but it is not, it's about defending the Mother-ship, Israel and its continued occupation (partite) of Palestinian land. In Egypt BHO expressed a new openness to American Middle East diplomacy, all the past under the table wheeling and dealing must come to an end. This is what he is all upset about and rightly so, BHO, the USA will no long tolerate Israel's childish complete disregard for human Palestrina life when confrontations over stealing land arises.
On June 8, 2009, Voight hosted a Republican congressional fundraiser, and he also made his own speech within the event. He said he was "embarrassed" by President Obama and referred to the Obama administration as "the oppression". He also described Obama as a "false prophet" who would bring about the downfall of the nation. Furthermore, he described his most pressing concern to be for Israel's safety, stating that he believed the Palestinian peoples' only agenda to be wiping Israel off the map. Truth of the matter, its been Israel who has done all the map wiping with incurtions of new settlements and hostel buldozing occupation.
Jon Voight, you are entitled to your comments; I just wish you would be more open about your true loyalties, making us think you're concerned about America, shame, shame on you.

Yes indeed Mr. Voight is entitled to his comments as are the rest of us. My problem is that he used the media event that had nothing to do with politics or his opinions. If anyone wanted to here his little speach, he should have called his own press conference (as if anyone would have attended) , or put it up on his website (if he has one). I don't care about people's personal likes or dislikes about The current president. This fading media Whore is looking for attention. How long before this guy is on "I'm a celebrity, get me out of here"?
How funny that the right, who for eight years threw hissy fits anytime the left criticized Bush, who called people who questioned the war "unpatriotic" or "unamerican" are suddenly so forgiving of criticism.
Voight has every right to say what he wishes to say, and I have every right to criticize him. That's the wonder and glory of the first amendment.
Anyone intelligent can read the left bias to this entire article. You need look no further than the photograph of Mr. Voight which accompanies the article. Much as the mainstream press does when publishing photos of Sarah Palin, the editors carefully selected the most unflattering snapshot they had available. You will never see the media do this when running a photo of President Obama or his wife.....
Sometimes it is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than open ones mouth and remove all doubt.
Jon "I have no education" Voight illustrates this point.
Right on, angry reader.
Average Joe, how about Harry Reid...every time I see one of the ads paid for by conservative/repub
pac $$$, they show some hideous photo of Ol' Harry; Goes both ways.
gmag...
paid ad versus newspaper article, do you see a difference? ...or are you suggesting that the sun is no better than a bought and paid for political ad? I'm not sure what you are getting at.
thank god george on seinfeld bought john voight's car not jon voight's car. let's see- voight, dennis miller, rush, newt, sarah, your own heidi harris, what a crowd you have on the right. voight thinks he's still joe buck when he's actually ratso rizo.
First of all, Pat, I see no problem with the photo in question. He POSED for it, for gosh sakes. "I'm not sure what you are getting at."
Yes you do.
Let me simplify for you:
Go to Drudge.
Look at the photos.
Are they flattering, in general, of "liberals"?
Thank you.
So the Drudge Report is just like the Las Vegas Sun?
Or are you saying the Sun photographer only takes one picture of each person and he does his best with that one photo?
patrick,
good concise comment, thanks for pointing out the obvious to clueless gmag.
gmag, if u are suggesting that Mr. Voight "froze" in place and said "cheese" so that photo could be taken, you are either too foolish to bother debating with, or you believe the rest of us to be so. just as u don't see the difference between "reporting" in a PUBLIC news forum, versus a paid for advertisement, you suggest that a single frame, probably from a video source, chosen deliberately to show the most awkward fleeting facial expression, is a photograph that he stood there for and posed or "mugged" for the camera.
GET A GRIP.
Patrick (and Joe), taking themselves WAY too seriously one goofy post at a time. Talk about get a grip... it's a photo.
I freely admit the Sun is liberal, Drudge is conservative. What's your question?
it is just a photo.
in this case, a photo which illustrates my point.
perhaps u should freely admit that your point comparing news articles to paid advertisements is like comparing apples to watermelons. take a step back, get your news and info from a variety of sources before making up your mind, and u might begin to learn to read and evaluate the news more critically.
So you're saying that it may be likely that the Las Vegas Sun picked a bad picture of him on purpose?
Joe, you are right. News articles and paid advertisements are different. OK?
It's still just a photo of a guy. Who cares?
You and pat are funny.
This is great, Sean Penn opens his mouth and the libs slobber at his very being. A conservative opens his mouth and ksand and gmag can't wait for the "kill" shot.
Constantly amazed.
hey, getalife...
I can't stand sean penn. Good actor though.
Wingnut Rhetoric vs Reality, part 6
getalife's wingnut rhetoric: "A conservative opens his mouth and ksand and gmag can't wait for the "kill" shot!!!!!!!!!!!"
Reality (a quote from myself only a few hours ago): "Voight has every right to say what he wishes to say, and I have every right to criticize him."
"Kill shot," eh? Not quite, drama queen.
Gmag,
If its just a photo why did you say "Average Joe, how about Harry Reid...every time I see one of the ads paid for by conservative/repub
pac $$$, they show some hideous photo of Ol' Harry; Goes both ways."
seems like bad photos of liberal politicians bothers you? Or were you against bad photos of people you liked before you didn't care about photos at all?
Isn't it great that among the results of freedom of speech is that a clown like Voigt gets to spout his ignorance and the rest of us can spout ours. I wonder if he has a clue about Marxism -- it is a nice ad hominem attack. Oh well, the SUN WILL COME UP TOMORROW!
I AGREE WITH JON VOIGHT:
The problem we have is that this Obama guy has no economic education or economic experience, and worse most members of his team are just as clueless. And then Obama and his cohorts go around and are spending trillions of dollars the government doesn't have. And true, Obama was raised in muslim schools and he has sat under Marxist teachers and endorsed communism over and over again.
It will take top-notch professionals do correct the many major mistakes of the communist Obama regime, and it will take such professionals over a decade to the get the U.S. back to the basic capitalistic principles of a free market system. Fact is, Americans made a major mistake by voting for Obama and they were deceived by the "smooth" words of this dictator and lured into his "spell." Well, the price America has to pay for this major mistake of electing the Obama regime is great and devastating as our nation faces broad poverty in a hyper-inflation that is coming. The Obama regime has already raised fees, taxes, etc. on various "services" by several hundred percentage points like e.g. SEC fees were just raised by 359% which in turn costs everyone who has stocks or a retirement account a small fortune over time. And such horrendous increases will also come to power bills, water, gas, gasoline, and all kinds of administrative fees, ... and it's a lot of increases, BUT that's what you get when you have communists in office who are not even qualified to tie their shoes.
Rush made a comment about WHO LIBS FEAR MOST are those they try to destroy. JON V strikes a cord with LIBS. They are clearly bitter as seen by the number of comments on this story. Funny how LIBS are all for free speech ... so long as it fits their agenda.
Jeez, I go out, go to a show, have some dinner, come home & Pat is STILL here running on about a PICTURE. Of Jon Voigt. Wow.
So now this protest you originally made is no longer important?
Do you hate when people ask you questions that back you into a corner like this? :P
Jon has finally discovered that politicians in office want to stay in office and use the levers of power and their authority to distribute Federal money toward the end of currying favor amongst voters to stay in power by winning the next election. Amazing, where has he been all his life that he didn't notice that before?
Things are changing everywhere and the old ways are starting to fail. The Conservatives could barely handle the revolutionary changes of the Earth's revolution about the Sun brings every morning with the new dawn.
What happens if Obama doesn't fail? What happens if his changes actually yield improvement in the lives of everyday Americans? Oh the humanity! Oh the horror, the comfortable Conservative fantasies shown up as just simplistic nonsense. Oh well, Jon Voight is 71 and even in his own family he is eclipsed by Angelina and her children grow up every day.
What is the world coming to? A new century, a new millennium, a new Great Age the calendar suggests.
Why is it that there is so much more commentary here than there usually is on Sun stories? Apparently many Sun readers care far more about what an actor says about politics than they do about what local pols, candidates, police, business leaders, etc. have to say about what's going on around us. No wonder the country's a mess.
Perhaps the best way to view this plethora of hyperbole is to simply regard it as entertainment! The sun did come up today.
To sum up how I feel regarding Jon Voight's political views: Who Cares?
At least Jon didn't "threaten to leave the country and move to France" like hollywood dumbocrats did during W elections.
No wonder Angelina doesn't talk to this nut job!
Imagine Jon's response if the Obama Adminstration "outed" a CIA agent, spent $600 billion on an unnecessary war based on lies, or side-stepped federal laws to wiretap its own citizens . . . Welcome back, Jon, from your eight-year coma.
some of you rightwingnuts have amnesia about 2000-2008. just wish you had to put your ass on the line in iraq. hey scherf-you got your top notch pro's in vegas ruining the town. blind mice running around the valley floor.
I dont think anyone has amnesia - we continue to hear about all the issues that Obama inherited. One of these days Obama will have to take accountability and responsibility. What is the difference between Obama and Voight - very little - they are both celebrities. Voight has every right to speak out against Obama. Fox is the only channel that doesnt kiss his ass and promote his ultra liberal agenda that has no vision and or plan. Government needs to quit meddling - stay out of my life - I can take care of myself.
"what is the difference between Obama and Voigt?"
What ISN'T the difference between Obama & Voigt?
The 2 appear polar opposites.
I just wonder if Sid From Ice Age, I mean Heidi Harris will call for her boy's resignation?
No really, see is Sid. Long neck, buggy eyes, and non stop insidious dribble from her mouth!
fox news - lol - get better info from billy mays
It is good to see some balanced commentary coming from Hollywood but this is over the top psycho-babble from a nutjob.
I would like to see some intelligent speech within the republican movement instead of them attacking one man. When they attack the Obama the GOP appears to be petty and racist. They are playing into his hands and they are making them more famous every time they speak negative about him.
The GOP has absolutely no ideas but to attack the president and bring up nut jobs like Voight to attack the president.
They remind me more of the democratic party during the 1980's . They just keep whining and you cant turn them off.
Boy they just blame everyone for the GOP Obama McCain, the leftist media, socialism, the ecomomy and the groups that they claim that they are so 'desperately trying to reach out to'
Keep pissing people off and all you are going to have in your party is dust Crap or get off the pot!
That is my truth
