Construction on the Horse Drive interchange at U.S. 95 is scheduled to start June 8 and will take 18 months to complete.

The $44 million project in the northwest part of Las Vegas includes construction of an overpass and interchange, frontage roads, ramps, a bridge and extensive utility work, flood control improvements, traffic signals and lighting.

Most work will be performed during the day, according to the Las Vegas Public Works Department. Construction can be expected east and west of U.S. 95, north of Grand Teton Drive. Road closures and traffic disruptions will occur on the highway.

Oso Blanca Road will be closed to traffic from Tee Pee Lane to Kyle Canyon Road for about 15 months. Fort Apache Road will be closed between Horse Drive and Brent Lane for about three months.

As work progresses, traffic disruptions can be expected on Iron Mountain Road, Brent Lane, Horse Drive, Sky Pointe Drive and Tee Pee Lane.

The interchange will improve safety and help alleviate traffic congestion in the area, Las Vegas City Councilman Steve Ross said in a statement.

Funding for the project is provided by the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada, the Clark County Regional Flood Control District and the city of Las Vegas.

Capriati Construction is the contractor while the Las Vegas Public Works Department is managing the project.
