The Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association announced its 2009 Hall of Fame class on Tuesday and former Boulder City High School track coach Bruce Momsen is among this year's entrants.

"It's quite an honor. There's a lot of great coaches who have done a lot of great things. It's an honor to be among them," Momsen said.

The induction ceremony will be on Feb. 26 at The Orleans Arena as part of the state basketball festivities.

Momsen coached track and cross country for 27 years at Boulder City. He led 13 state championship teams during his tenure -- four in cross country and nine in track -- while his teams won a combined 25 division championships.

"I was surrounded by great athletes and good assistant coaches. I couldn't have done it on my own," Momsen said.

Of all the memories, the one that stand out the most for Momsen is coaching his two sons.

"It was great that I got to coach them and also be a proud parent as they were part of state championship teams and won individual track championships," Momsen said.

He retired in 2006, moved to Tennessee and then back to Boulder City in October to be back around his family. He has a son, a daughter and four grandchildren living in town.

Former Boulder City High Athletic Director Bob Northridge worked with Momsen from 1990 to 2006 and said it was no surprise to hear Momsen will be in the hall.

"I think it's amazing what he accomplished and glad he made it on the first ballot," Northridge said. "With the time and sports he coached, it's a well deserved honor."

His teaching and coaching career started with an eight-year stint in Milwaukee before moving to Southern Nevada. He arrived in Boulder City in 1979. He was inducted into the school's Golden Eagle Hall of Fame in 2007.

The other members of this year's class are Larry Burgess, Jim Duschen, Carol Leavitt, Bruce Miller, Aldeane Ries, Martin Taggart and Evan Wilson.
