Kristina Pickering was sworn in to the Nevada Supreme Court on Monday, making her just the fifth woman to serve on the state's highest bench.
Pickering, who was a Las Vegas attorney, becomes the 56th member of the Nevada Supreme Court. She said the court was "no place for partisan politics" and thanked her husband and law partner Steve Morris.
She was introduced by Sen. Richard Bryan, who was also a former governor, and Gov. Jim Gibbons also made remarks about the historic challenges the state was facing.
Pickering ran against Washoe County District Court Judge Deborah Schumacher.
