Caren Carrero naturally transitioned into her new role as the Sun City Anthem association community manager.
The 37-year-old Las Vegas woman was the assistant community manager for two years before her promotion in mid-February.
"It's a challenge," she said recently inside the Anthem Center. "There's always something going on. I don't like to be bored at work, and I'm definitely not bored here."
Carrero works closely with the homeowner's association's board of directors, which is known for having its share of inner conflict.
That was most recently displayed in the selection of a restaurant tenant for the Trumpets restaurant inside the Anthem Center. The board was conflicted about what type of food it wanted served in the restaurant, which led to the top candidate pulling his interest in the lease.
The board has since entered into lease contract negotiations with Tirzo Hernandez, owner of Brando's Bistro & Bar of Green Valley.
Carrero manages a staff of eight, who oversee about 50 employees. The association includes about 13 committees for things such as finance and elections. The association has hundreds of volunteers and about 40 clubs.
Sun City Anthem includes about 12,000 residents and about 7,100 homes.
Carrero was born and raised in Las Vegas. She earned her bachelor's degree in psychology from UNLV in 1998 after graduating from Bonanza High School in 1990. Her 6-year-old daughter Sophia is a student at Henderson International School.
Carrero's experience is in working for age-restricted communities. She previously worked at Sun City Anthem as an activities assistant and has also worked for Sun City Summerlin and the Ardiente community in North Las Vegas.
Former Sun City Anthem Community Manager Terry DaSilva brought Carrero back in 2007 to work as her assistant.
