Allegiant Air, the Las Vegas airline specializing in connecting small towns to big tourist destinations, said it's establishing a base at Los Angeles International Airport with service to that destination from a dozen towns.
They are Bellingham, Wash., in the Vancouver, British Columbia area; Billings, Mont.; Des Moines, Iowa; Fargo, N.D.; Grand Junction, Colo.; McAllen, Texas; Medford, Ore.; Missoula, Mont.; Monterey, Calif.; Sioux Falls, S.D.; Springfield, Mo.; and Wichita, Kan.
Service-start days for the cities are staggered in May and Allegiant is offering fares ranging from $39 one way to $99 one way.
"We’re extremely pleased to add Los Angeles and the Southern California region to our growing roster of world-class leisure destinations," Allegiant Chief Executive Maurice J. Gallagher said in a statement. "This is an exciting new market for our airline and our customers. We look forward to a successful relationship with the airport, area resorts and community leaders."
Los Angeles is the sixth big leisure destination for Allegiant, which also serves McCarran International Airport, Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport, Orlando Sanford International Airport, St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport and Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport.
Allegiant, which also provides casino charters around the country, reported a profit for the fourth quarter that ended Dec. 31 of $18.2 million or 88 cents per share, up from $4.8 million or 23 cents in the year-ago quarter.
Revenue increased from $101 million to $122.4 million.
