Unemployment office to be open Monday

Because of the increasing demand on unemployment benefits, the state's unemployment call center will be open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m Monday, Feb. 16, although it is Presidents Day, a federal holiday.

This is in addition to the center's recently expanded Saturday hours, also open 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Unemployment claims in Nevada have risen to about 100,000 a week, with about 90,000 people receiving payments every week, the state said.

The call center receives 25,000 calls every week, the state said.

The Nevada JobConnect offices and other administrative offices will be closed.

Claims can also be filed via the Internet by visiting www.expressclaim.org. The phone number is 486-0350.
